Gaffney Way

The Gaffney Way Group home was designed to support persons who recently moved from one of Oregon's state operated institutions. As a result of institutional living, adverse and challenging behaviors may be exhibited before full integration into a community. Staff at Gaffney Way attend to the residents' health and welfare needs; provide the residents with dignity and to the best of their efforts normalcy.

As part of our holistic approach and commitment to individualized services, person centered values are employed at every stage of the individual's planning. Staff are trained in specialized areas such as structured teaching for Autism, Behavior Support plans and alternatives to employment. A full-time Behavioral Specialist and an on-call nurse provide training and support to enable staff to deliver the best services and support possible.

The one-to-one ratio allows a certain freedom for the residents to navigate the house and the expansive back yard, to experience life with limited restrictions, and to explore new venues presented to each and every one of them.

As with every Stepping Stone residence, the staff displays a mix of affection, guidance, support and training. In the process, personal growth and transformation occurs. One individual found joy in the sunlight filtering through the leaves of a tree, another enjoyed running the base paths at a local baseball diamond, and another loved listening to old-time country music on a local radio station.

With time, the residents will be welcomed as members of the community. They will find friends who do not get paid to be around them. The staff's reward will be a warm smile, a hug, laughter, and the satisfaction of making a profound change in the life of someone who spent a lifetime in an institution.
