THE FIRST CARE HOME

Historically this home represents the first care home in the Stepping Stone residential system. At one time 10 residents lived in this home and over the years the number has been reduced.

The home represents a diversity of ages and skills. The program provides 24-hour staff supervision and support. Individual life-style dictates the range of support needs: younger residents enjoy various community activities and are given full opportunity to explore and discover their community; older residents who prefer a slower pace of life, enjoy relaxing on the expansive front porch or watching their favorite movie on video. In addition, annual trips to the coast and attendance at local music events such as Concerts in the Park enrich the lives of the residents.

Residents share in the decoration and maintenance of their home; participate in meal preparation; and learn to care for their personal needs such as laundry and personal hygiene.

Residents and their families assist in setting individualized goals with the use of Person Centered Plans. These goals often include recreational activities, attendance at social functions and the building of meaningful relations in the community.
