RECYCLING

SPARC Enterprises operates a recycling center located at 1990 N.W. Washington Boulevard in Grants Pass, Oregon. It has operated this recycling facility for over twenty-five years. The recycling center provides employment opportunities for citizens with developmental disabilities and meets the recycling needs of Southern Oregon.

Currently the facility processes approximately 450 tons per month of cardboard, office paper, newspaper, magazines and plastic materials. These materials are processed (seperated, baled and prepared for market) then shipped to mills in Oregon. Payment for these materials help offset the costs of operating the facility; provide for expansion of recycling programs, support recycling educational efforts; and supports the wages and benefits of employees with and without disabilities.

SPARC Enterprises works cooperatively with the two local garbage companies to provide a comprehensive recycling service to Southern Oregon households and businesses. The sanitation companies pick up cardboard and bring it to SPARC for processing and shipping to markets. In March of 2002, SPARC launched a new phase in recycling as it partnered with local sanitation companies to provide co-mingled recycling. Co-mingled recycling is a new form of recycling. The process starts with the residential customer. With co-mingling, the residential customer no longer has to separate recyclable materials as they have in the past. The separation of materials takes place at the recycling center.

RECYCLING EDUCATION:

SPARC offers an array of recycling education programs ranging from classroom presentations, community displays, and booths at local fairs, public presentations, and the dissemination of educational materials.

CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS DESTRUCTION & RECYCLING:

SPARC offers businesses a secure and reliable service for the destruction of sensitive records. Utilizing secure procedures and an industrial grade shredder SPARC destroys records in the manner prescribed by regulations. Procedures dictate the handling of highly confidential records from the point of contact to the point of destruction. Customers are provided written documentation of the materials' destruction. After destruction, the shredded materials in most cases can be recycled further reducing the burden on our landfills. Records may be transported to SPARC's recycling center or customers can arrange for pick up services.
