EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT: The Key to Success

Human services companies that support people with developmental disabilities must follow rigid state regulations. Moreover, companies that blend human services with traditional entrepreneurial ventures must also blend skills training support to people with developmental disabilities with production requirements no different than traditional business.

Our current Staff Development Program is designed to meets all the above challenges and sets out a model system for training, evaluating and rewarding improvements. The program follows the standard learning process of classroom participation, written testing and hands on learning.

From day one of employment, all new staff engage in a learning process aimed at introducing values, rules, skills, and concepts used everyday in the support of people with developmental disabilities. Our core curriculum includes orientation materials and Staff Development Classes. All new employees are hired at an entry level wage with an expectation to complete all training's in the core curriculum within nine months of employment.

Beyond the initial core curriculum, our organization offers an additional fifty classes. These classes cover a broad spectrum of issues that face employees supporting people with developmental disabilities. A sampling of classes includes: Mental Health, Autism, Behavior Supports, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Supporting Self-Advocacy, Conflict Resolution, the Aging Process, and Person Centered Values.

This is only one facet of employee development. The organization offers additional training's specific to the various units, along with a college tuition reimbursement program. All these programs are designed to support the organizations #1 asset, the employees.
